The Awatere Valley Road is now open to   5km past Hodder River Bridge to Molesworth, from this point itis only open for residents and essential services.

As crews are working in the valley please expect delays and be aware of additional truck movements, especially around the Jordan Bridge and Woodman's Bend. 

There are three upcoming daytime road closures on Awatere Valley Road on Monday 4, Wednesday 6 and Monday 11 of April. 

Awatere Valley Road will be closed from 9am to 3pm at the following dates and locations for culvert installations. 

  • Monday 4 April, 4km past Old Upcot Bridge
  • Wednesday 6 April, 2.5km before Kennet Bridge
  • Monday 11 April, 1.2km before Kennet Bridge

To get to Gladstone Downs: Turn off SH1 4 km north of Seddon, or 21 km south of Blenheim onto Awatere Valley Road. Drive 54 km up the Awatere Valley to the Hodder River Bridge. Cross the bridge and park vehicles at the flat area on the left.

The parking area is adjacent to the toilet that has been installed to cater for the increase in visitors to the area. 

DO NOT PARK NEAR FARM GATES. Your vehicle will impede movement of stock being driven through, plus farm machinery also needs access through this gate. 

Due to the fire risk: No parking or camping is permitted in the vicinity of the hay barn across the road.
